The record entry for this event was 1998 (183 players with only 113 rebuys). Some stir was caused as the brothers drew positions on the same table at the semi-final stage. But although they were the first brothers to make a final, Howard Lederer and Annie Duke, brother and sister, have achieved the same previously. Four previous winners (from seven Bracelet winners) of this event in this final plus the first of brothers making a final who are both pot-limit experts made this a tough event. Chip levels and antes made it likely for early action rather than later. Bill Gazes had the audacity to play in the next event (running between tables) whilst still trying to hang in on in this final. Both of those went South quickly he was first out without being at the table much. As soon as he was gone Barney took off with Aces suited only to see a flop of three spades and an Ace. A player with two spades bet and Barney called but could not pair the board and was out 9th. Ross followed 30 miniutes later with Kings against Jacks, a Jack hit the turn because Ross didn't have enough to bet the man out. Next Event Also today David Colclough wins a qualifier for the Championship and Benny Binion Behnen finished 14th. |
